What does access include?

Hacker Lab access through this partnership includes:

  • 24 hour facility access via keyfob to Hacker Lab
  • Discounts from the general price for Hacker Lab classes pending availability
  • Access to One-on-one classes at a discounted price pending availability
  • Access to free online classes exclusive to Hacker Lab's community
  • When on-site, access to our blazing-fast internet

While access itself has no out-of-pocket cost to the student, classes will still need to be purchased at discounted rates.

Please be aware that Hacker Lab's facility is not part of the Los Rios school system and those wishing to use the space will be required to become familiar with and adhere to Hacker Lab's rules, policies, terms, & conditions in the same way those rules apply to normal Hacker Lab members. Access may be terminated by Hacker Lab staff in accordance with these policies at any time. To view them, please click here.

Additionally, please be aware that Hacker Lab will be following state and local guidelines regarding access to it's physical space. Because of this, we cannot guarantee that all Hacker Lab amenities will be available for the duration of the term, including but not limited to: classes, on-site access, equipment training, etc. Please follow this link to keep up-to-date with our current access and space-use policies. We will do our best, and while we feel access to such a diverse workspace is a clear benefit to many, safety must come first.

What are MAKR classes?

The SCC Makerspace serves as a hub for innovation and collaboration, attracting those that wish to apply their skills in design, science, technology, arts & crafts, engineering, mathematics, medicine, physics, and more.

The SCC Makerspace is free and open to all currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff at SCC.

When campus re-opens for in-person services, You’re welcome anytime to stop by, take a tour, and learn more. We feature workshops, trainings, events, and internship opportunities throughout the year.

SCC's MAKR program, Modern Making, introduces students to the principles of making and design thinking through fabricating or producing a finished product.

MAKR 140:

Introduction to Making

This highly immersive, hands-on introductory survey course introduces students to the principles of making and design thinking through fabricating or producing a finished product. Students learn to design and build physical things or spaces, make them work, and integrate them with electronics, software, or mediums of innovation.

MAKR 151:

Makerspace Lab 1

This lab course provides access to workshops in the methodologies and practices of making in a contemporary Makerspace / fabrication laboratory environment. Via hands-on trainings, workshops, and instruction, students will gain experience using a variety of equipment used in the Makerspace to design and build projects.

MAKR 152:

Makerspace Lab 2

This lab course provides access to intermediate-level workshops in the methodologies and practices of making in a contemporary Makerspace / fabrication laboratory environment. Via hands-on trainings, workshops, and instruction, students will gain experience using a variety of equipment used in the Makerspace to design and build projects.
