Fingers pointed to the vines hanging off of a repurposed security gate-turned planter. Tasters tried Burly Beverage's ginger beer kegs, non-alcoholic and sprightly. Artist appreciators flooded Hacker Lab's new location on R Street for its first Second Saturday on R Street.
The show—called "Sacramento Love"—was Laura Marie Anthony's first as Hacker Lab's new art curator. With mediums spanning from traditional to the cutting edge, over 13 artists celebrated the city's vibrant art scene with creations birthed locally from makerspaces and beyond.
The show will remain inside Hacker Lab's location at 2533 R Street (26th & R) as a gallery show until May's Second Saturday.
Anthony founded arts-advocacy organization Artists of Sac (@artistsofsacramento) to support local artists, including with the Artists of Sac FORUM on Facebook. At Hacker Lab, her next shows will tackle a mix of issues relevant to Sacramento, artists and other creators in the city. A local nonprofit will benefit from each of the shows.
“These events are never possible without community participation. You showed up and then some,” Anthony said. "Still basking in the afterglow! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for last night!
Thanks to the artists for showing with Hacker Lab and for all who came out to support.
The next show, Hoping Strategies, features a focus on mental health awareness and creatives' coping techniques. To enter a piece of art, send photo examples or a description of your piece with social media handles and how it might be relevant to the theme to [email protected] by midnight on May 1st. To participate in other shows, feel free to contact Laura at that email address. More details are available here
